How To Enjoy Being Rejected For Jesus
How To Enjoy Being Rejected For Jesus - Listen To The Podcast
The Weekly Worker Maker #02
My wife shared a story with me of when she was a kid in school. On Valentine’s Day, a boy built up the courage to buy her flowers and approached her to offer his gift. She rejected him and wouldn’t even accept his flowers. She watched as he walked away, head down, dragging the flowers on the ground behind him devastated.
I think this is one of the main obstacles people have when stepping out and sharing the Good News of the Kingdom. They don’t want to be rejected and feel the pain that young boy felt on Valentine’s Day.
What if I told you there was a way to embrace rejection and even begin to look forward to it?
In today’s training I want to talk about what I discovered about rejection and why it matters for eternity.
I was studying all the times in the New Testament where it says “Do This…And I Will Reward You.”
I realized we all have a heavenly bank account where we are making deposits that will matter for eternity.
Jesus says
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” Matt 6:19-21
Then he says in Revelation 22:12 “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.”
The things we choose to do in this life will matter in eternity and there are around a half dozen things Jesus says he reward when he comes back.
One of them really surprised me.
In Luke 6:22-23 Jesus says when people reject us he will see it and he will reward us.
So every time you step out and try to share with someone and they reject you…it’s a good thing! It’s so good, in fact, that every time you get rejected you are making a deposit that will matter for eternity!
We started a new Rejection Challenge in our evangelism trainings. Every student in the training has to go out and get rejected a minimum of 5 times in a day (for Jesus). The record so far is 19 rejections in a day.
And this is what happens: When they go out with a goal to be rejected, they find God actually ends up using them to lead people to Jesus and do miracles.
It’s like dealing with that fear– that question that says “what if they won’t listen…what if they don’t want to accept prayer right now…what if….” When you just do it anyway, in the hope that they actually don’t want to listen to you, it turns out that sometimes they actually do want to listen to you and they do need prayer!
My challenge to you is this:
Go get rejected for Jesus.
In the end you won’t be like the little boy walking away with his head down, heartbroken. You’ll stand before Jesus and he’ll say, with a smile on his face, “Well Done My Son (or Daughter) I saw when you got rejected for me. Here’s a reward for that.”
