Forgotten Key To Finish The Great Commission

The Weekly Worker Maker #10

One of the last things Jesus said to his disciples was that he wants them to do one specific thing.  

As I’ve trained people all over the world I always ask if they know this specific thing and if they are doing it. 

Let’s look at what he said:

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

As I read the Great Commission, I am struck by two things:

1. Followers of Jesus are called to make disciples of nations, not just
   make disciples in nations; and
2. The key to discipling nations is to teach them to obey everything
   Jesus commanded us to do. 

So here are the questions I ask:

• Do you know all the commands of Jesus?
• Do you know how to obey them?
• Can you teach another how to obey them? 

Sadly, most people are unable to answer “yes” to these questions, in spite of Jesus directing us, “If you love me, keep my commands.” (John 14:15)

As we grow in our love for Jesus, we will begin to grow in our understanding of the things He commanded us to do; and once we understand His commands, we can begin to obey them. 

This is important because, I believe, locked inside the “Red Letters” of Jesus are the solutions to the problems in the nations of the world.

We need to live the Red Letters!  

So I did a study I think you should do.  

Read the 4 Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.  Look at the Red Letters (Bibles will often put the words of Jesus in Red Letters).  Look for the imperatives where Jesus says Do this or Don’t Do That.  

Those are the things he says you need to be obeying and teaching the nations how to obey.  

I found 99 of them in my study.  

The rest of our lives we get the privilege of living out these 99 commands.
